Why is there a one-time download the first time I use it?
Because the AI model has to live on your device to keep your images off ours. The first run fetches the model once — about 43 MB on the default Balanced setting, or about 179 MB for Best quality — then caches it in your browser, so later sessions start straight away.
Is the cutout quality as good as remove.bg?
Honest answer: usually close, not always. It's strongest on product shots, people and everyday subjects with a clear subject-background separation; very wispy hair or fur can come out imperfect, and remove.bg's server-side models sometimes win on those hard edges. It's also not instant — the model runs on your CPU, so allow a few seconds per image. Since ours is free with no signup, the sensible move is to try your actual images first and pay only if you need to.
