Free invoice generator

Invoice the hours you already tracked.

A free invoice generator that opens with no signup, never brands your invoice, and — if you track work in Workspace — turns the time you logged into billable lines in one click. Download a clean PDF and send it.

No account. No card. No watermark on any plan.

What you get, free

Everything you need to send an invoice.

Bill your tracked hours

Pick a client and a date range, hit Pull hours, and every project you logged time against becomes its own line at the rate on the task. Then edit them like any other line.

Or paste from a spreadsheet

Copy cells out of Excel, Numbers or Sheets and paste, or load a .csv. Headings in any order, quoted fields, currency symbols and European decimal commas all handled.

Type on the document itself

No form beside a preview — click any part of the invoice and type. What you see is exactly what the PDF says, down to the date format.

Tax that fits your country

Named tax rows — VAT 20%, GST 18%, Sales tax 8.5%, or several at once — with free-text tax IDs for both parties. No hard-coded rules to go stale.

Four designs, or your own

Classic, Modern, Minimal or Bold, tinted with your brand colour and saved as your own style. One design drives both the preview and the PDF, so they cannot disagree.

Clients and companies saved

Type a client name and matching saved clients drop down, filling their address, email and tax number. Bill from any of several of your own companies, each with its own logo.

Straight comparison

Invoicing is a crowded, mostly free category.

So here is the honest version. Zoho Invoice and Wave both give invoicing away, and if you need bookkeeping or to take card payments they beat us outright. What we do that they do not: ask for nothing to get started, never put our name on your invoice, and bill straight from the hours the same suite already tracked.

Prices checked 26 July 2026 on zoho.com/invoice/pricing, waveapps.com/pricing, getharvest.com/pricing and freshbooks.com/pricing. FreshBooks was showing a 90%-off-for-six-months promotion; the regular rates are quoted here, not the promotional ones. FreshBooks charges $11/month per extra team member on every standard plan. Wave was running $9.50/month for the first three months on Pro. Harvest’s annual pricing is a 20% discount. A grey “—” means the vendor’s own pricing page did not state it and we would not guess. Not given a row of its own but the most important thing to know: this is not accounting software — no bookkeeping, no expenses, no bank feeds, no tax or GST/VAT filing. All four of the others do that and we do not. Our $25/month is the flat PRO price across all 27 Studio-Tools, not a price for this tool alone — and this is not one of our battle-tested tools: only the QA checkers and Backup-JPG are in heavy internal production use here.

What this tool will not do for you

Better you know now than after you have moved your invoicing across.

  • Take a card payment from your client
  • Bookkeeping, expenses or bank feeds
  • File a tax return or a GST/VAT return
  • Recurring invoices or automatic reminders
  • A mobile app — it is a browser tool
  • Enforce legally sequential invoice numbering
Questions

The things people actually ask.

Is it really free, and do I have to sign up?
Free, and no signup. Open the Invoices tool, type the invoice, download the PDF. No account, no card, no email. Everything stays in your browser until you deliberately choose to save it to an account — which is the only thing PRO changes.
Is there a watermark or “powered by” on free invoices?
No, on any plan. An invoice is a document you send to your client to get paid; stamping our name on it would read as “this freelancer uses a free tool”. Worth comparing: Zoho Invoice puts “Powered by Zoho Invoice” on free accounts, and Wave keeps your own logo and brand colours behind its $19/month Pro plan. We never do either.
What makes this different from the dozens of other free invoice generators?
It reads the work you already logged. If you use Workspace, pick a client and a date range and hit Pull hours — every project you tracked time against becomes its own line, at the rate on the task. Nothing else on this list can do that, because nothing else is sitting next to your production board. If you do not use Workspace, the tool works perfectly well by hand or from a spreadsheet paste.
Can I paste line items in from a spreadsheet?
Yes. Copy the cells straight out of Excel, Numbers or Google Sheets and paste, or load a .csv. Headings can be in any order; without headings the columns are read left to right. Semicolon CSV (what German and French Excel writes), quoted fields, currency symbols and 1.250,00‑style numbers all work, and a trailing Total row is ignored rather than billed.
Can my client see whether they have paid?
That one is PRO. Share turns a saved invoice into a link: your client opens it and sees the invoice, whether it has been paid and a countdown to the due date — read live, so the moment you record a payment their page says so. Add a password if it is sensitive. Free sends a PDF instead, which is the same document, just frozen at the moment you sent it.
What does it NOT do?
It produces invoice documents and tracks what you are owed. It is not accounting software: no bookkeeping, no expenses, no bank feeds, no tax filing or GST/VAT returns, and it cannot take a card payment from your client. It has no recurring invoices, no automatic reminders and no mobile app. If you need any of those, Zoho Invoice is free and FreshBooks and Wave are cheap — we would rather you knew that than found out later.
Where does my data go?
On the free plan, nowhere. The invoice, your company details, your client list and your saved designs all live in that browser's local storage. PRO deliberately uploads — saved invoices, the team client book and share links are on the server, because that is what makes history survive a cleared cache and a link stay live. That is the trade, stated plainly.
Do these tools use credits or tokens?
No — never. Every tool is free to use with sample or daily limits, and PRO is a flat $25/month ($199/year) for unlimited use of all 27 tools: no credit packs, no top-ups, no per-use fees. See tools pricing.
